On Thursday, Sept. 11, Manhasset will remember the thirteenth anniversary of a day residents will never forget. The day is a remembrance of those lost in the carnage of the horrific event that occurred just 20 miles away in New York City.
Several ceremonies will take place in the center of town at Mary Jane Davies Park. First, the Town of North Hempstead will hold a Memorial Service at 8:30 a.m. at Mary Jane Davies Green, located on Plandome Road, Manhasset across the street from Town Hall. This service is open to the public. In the past, this ceremony has traditionally been held at Clark Gardens but has been moved to Manhasset. The ceremony takes place at the exact moments the planes collided with the towers.
“The ceremony serves to provide all who endured the tragedy of Sept. 11 to reflect upon its impact and remember those we lost that day,” said Town Clerk Wayne Wink.
“This Memorial Service allows us to gather together as a community to honor and pay respect to those who lost their lives, and to heal with those who lost loved ones 13 years ago,” said Supervisor Judi Bosworth. Please call the Town Clerk at 869-7646.
Candelight Memorial
The Manhasset 9/11 Candelight Memorial Service which is sponsored by the Manhasset Clergy Association will be held at that night at 8 p.m. at Mary Jane Davies Park.
