Plainview Meets For School Upgrades

The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District Facilities Upgrades and Improvements Advisory Committee presented their recommendations regarding facility improvements to the Board of Education on Sept. The committee prioritized numerous projects to deliver a report that includes various building improvements and security upgrades.

“The committee was able to prioritize infrastructure needs based on an analysis of each proposed project during building tours and discussions with the building’s architectural firm,” said Superintendent Dr. Lorna Lewis. “In addition to the prioritized suggestions, the committee also provided additional projects for the Board’s consideration to include in this year’s bond referendum.”

This second report is the product of numerous committee meetings based on the district’s building condition survey report. Since the establishment of the advisory committee, members have met with the district’s architect and participated in building tours to develop this second and updated report to the Board of Education. The prioritized projects include security upgrades based on the state’s Homeland Security recommendations; replacement of original windows, ceilings and floor tiles; energy efficiency projects; and roof and masonry work.

In addition to the prioritized projects, the committee also suggested the improvements for the Board’s review including renovations of school auditorims; air conditioning installation into numerous large building spaces; field reconstruction projects at Stratford Road Elementary School and Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School; and renovations and reconstruction of district tennis courts.

The committee and members of the district held a public forum on Sept. 13 where community members participated in a discussion regarding the upcoming bond referendum. For more information on the proposed facility improvements and the upcoming bond vote, visit www.pobschools.org.
