The nine-year-old Mineola Chiefs, whose squad contains players from Roslyn, defeated the Franklin Square Warriors 19-12 last Saturday, bringing their winning record to 2-0.
The offense was led by running backs Nick Rios (two touchdown runs) and James Rosellon (one touchdown run), behind the sound blocking by James Muessig, Luke Santaniello, Dean Aquilina, Charlie Villa, Frankie Leckler, Joe Chimenti and Michael Nygaard. Quarterback Peter Sluka managed the offense throughout the game.
The Chiefs’ defense was once again dominant, making team tackles all over the field. The line of Liam Jenel, Luigi Kaloudis, Bryan McCleery, Luke Ruiz, John Jochym, Zachary Bohringer, Johnny Kessler, Zakria Zulfiqar, Jack McCormack and Peter Sluka kept the pressure on Franklin Square’s offense the entire game. Linebackers Rios and John Viggiani over whelmed the Warriors with blitz packages.
Cornerbacks Lucas Goring and Nolan Langner finished off the Warriors with great tackling.
