Letter: A Great Community

Now that we are in full back to school mode for the past couple of months I would to express my admiration and gratitude to our wonderful community. First, to our wonderful New Hyde Park Fire Department, which I had called for help back in June when my wife accidentally cut her hand with a knife while preparing dinner. She had sliced the radial artery, nerve and tendons, it was a horrific scene and the fire department had arrived within 60 seconds of my call. They were professional, courteous and very knowledgeable for what had to be done.  These volunteers should be commended for their dedication and goodwill to assist our community. They will always have my application and gratitude for their selfless service, so if you ever see them racing in their own vehicle with that blue light flashing, please give the respect they deserve and give the right of way, because someone is in need of their help.

Second, since I am a New Hyde Park-Garden City Park School Board Trustee I find the administration and staff of our district are very dedicated to teaching our children. For their
hard work and dedication which does not go unnoticed, they make my job much easier than it otherwise could be. I know from my own experience, if you have good people working under you all runs well and you look great. However I know if the ones on the top look great it is only because of those who really do all the hard work, the employees that come to work every day and give their all. This, I do realize and appreciate because I see it and hear it from other parents whose children are still attending the elementary schools. Our district is doing well because of our wonderful teachers and staff, for this I applaud them and they will always have my gratitude.

Third, I would like to praise our PTA’s in the district. They of course are volunteers and their main concern is always the children. The PTA’s started a petition to take polling out
of the schools for the only reason of the safety of the children and staff. They have petitioned, contacted the administration of both the elementary and high school districts and contacted local politicians. Their efforts have not gone unnoticed. Almost everyone I have spoken to including the board and the administration are in favor of this. The world is changing and we must change with it and this initiative just seems to make sense. I implore everyone to support our wonderful PTA’s to make this vision a reality.

The New Hyde Park Dad’s Club is another  wonderful organization consisting of volunteers whose goal is to raise money to support high school students with scholarships, clubs, or wherever there is a need to help. I am proud to say I have been a part of this great noble organization for over 5 years and I have seen only good come out of this club. They are just a bunch of benevolent, caring dads who just want to contribute their efforts in helping our students. We all get along great, there is no agenda, all are accepted with non-judgment. It’s just all about the kids. If you have not already joined, please come down to the next meeting on Tuesday November 4th, 8:00 PM in the NHP HS library and see for yourself why it is so wonderful to be a part of this. You can look them up at the high school’s website http://www.sewanhaka.k12.ny.us/Page/19609 or visit on theirfacebook.com/pages/New-Hyde-Park-Memorial-Dads-Club/106766652809125.

This is why I am very pleased to be a part of this great community because many get involved to help others. I have seen time and time again how this town rises up to the occasion whenever someone is in need or there is a crisis. Everyone bands together like family.  This is why it is a great place to live.
