Fall Festival Street Fair And Homecoming – Huge Success

This year’s Fall Festival Street Fair and Homecoming Parade was a huge success. The village had one of the largest turnouts ever. It was very gratifying that so many children as well as adults took part in the activities.

I would like to thank everyone who had a part in planning the day, as I know this was a lot of work, but it was very much appreciated by those who attended.

As we move into the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, I encourage all residents to continue to shop in the village. Our merchants along Seventh Street, Franklin Avenue and New Hyde Park Road have quality merchandise which is only exceeded by their willingness to accommodate their customers. I hope to see you in one of our neighborhood stores.

Daylight Savings Time

Daylight Savings Time ended on Sunday, Nov. 2. Residents are reminded that clocks should be set back one hour.

This is also a good time to check your smoke and carbon monoxide batteries. In fact, it is recommended that you install new batteries twice a year to be sure they are always working properly.

Mark Your Calendar – Friday, Dec. 12 – Christmas Spectacular

Please mark your calendar for Friday, Dec. 12., when Seventh Street will be closed from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. for a Christmas Spectacular. There will be fire pits along Seventh Street manned by firefighters, the band Fivestone will be playing Christmas music, there will be a face painter and a balloon twister. All stores will be open on Seventh Street for Christmas shopping. There will be a visit from Santa Claus. I hope that you are your families will attend this wonderful event to celebrate Christmas.

Special Presentation At The Library On The Ebola Virus

I have been asked to let residents know that on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Garden City Library, a special public service presentation, jointly sponsored by the four Property Owner’s Associations of Garden City, will include guest speakers John F. Collins, President and CEO of Winthrop-University Hospital and Dr. Michael Ammazzalorso, Winthrop’s Chief Medical Officer. Collins and Dr. Ammazzalorso will speak to residents about Winthrop’s overall Ebola preparedness, protocols for screening individuals who come to the hospital, either at the emergency room or for elective procedures, employee training, details of the hospital’s isolation unit, as well as county-wide preparations. Dr. Ammazzalorso will also be able to answer questions about the nature of the disease, symptoms and known risks for infections.

Please try to attend this very informative presentation which will be held in the lower level conference room of the Garden City Library on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Please Continue To Shop And Dine In Garden City

The residents of Garden City are very fortunate to have viable retail businesses on Seventh Street, Franklin Avenue and New Hyde Park Road where there is a good variety of quality merchandise and family dining experiences available to be enjoyed. Please support these businesses and enjoy the products, variety and outstanding customer service. Keep in mind that these merchants save you from traveling outside the village for your needs. Consider the harsh reality if we did not have these businesses here to service our needs. I look forward to seeing everyone in town.

Board Of Trustees Meeting Schedule

The next regularly scheduled Board of Trustees’ meetings for the month of November are Nov. 6 and Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. I encourage all residents to attend board of trustees meetings so as to be thoroughly informed of village issues from a first-hand perspective.
