Parkway Fatal DWI Suspect Charged With Vehicular Homicide

A Brooklyn man was arrested for driving drunk after he crashed his car on the Meadowbrook State Parkway, killing his 23-year-old passenger early Thanksgiving morning, New York State police said.

Bilal Hassan, also 23, was driving his Infiniti southbound when got off on the exit for the Southern State Parkway westbound, lost control and struck a tree, causing the car to burst into flames at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, police said.

Troopers quickly extinguished the flames, but Hassan’s front seat passenger, Malih Takkouche, also of Brooklyn, died, police said.

Hassan was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he is being treated for two broken legs and head trauma.

He was charged with Vehicular Homicide, second-degree Manslaughter, Vehicular Manslaughter, Reckless Driving and Driving while Intoxicated.
