Cops Probe Black Friday Slashing at Tanger Outlet in Riverhead

Riverhead police are investigating an apparent slashing that occurred at the Tanger Outlet shopping center in Riverhead on Black Friday.

Police were called to the popular outlet mall just before 2 a.m. Friday after receiving reports of a disturbance, police said. Arriving officers found an 18-year-old male victim bleeding from wounds to his face and abdomen, which “appeared to have been caused by a cutting instrument,” police said in a news release.

The victim was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead for treatment, police said.

Following an investigation at the scene, police discovered that several people were involved in a physical altercation. The apparent fight was believed to be in retaliation to a prior incident, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the altercation is asked to call the Riverhead Detective Division at 631-727-4500 ext. 328.
