Neighborliness is a big part and parcel of what is at the heart of Garden City and nowhere is the ability to connect with your fellow residents more apparent than at the annual tree lightings. The village is fortunate in that it has not one but two ceremonies. The West End Tree Lighting takes place on Friday, Dec. 5 and is sponsored by the Western Property Owners Association. Two days later on Sunday, Dec. 7, the Garden City Chamber of Commerce and Astoria Federal Savings will be hosting the 60th annual Village Tree Lighting Ceremony. Both are fueled by the feeling of community and give people a chance to mingle during one of the season’s more charming traditions. Both events give the opportunity to experience local talents like the Garden City High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble, the Broadway Bound dance troupe and the hot chocolate-making skills of Honestly Delicious and the Garden City Fire Department. Apparently, St. Nick will be getting his schedule kicked off early as he’s expected to make appearances at both tree lightings.
