Bruce Andrew Laing

Obit_Laing_010915ABruce Andrew Laing, 65, of Manhasset/Great Neck, passed away from cardiac heart failure on Dec. 14.
Bruce was born in New York City and moved to Manhasset with his family in 1960. He attended Manhasset High School and graduated from the University of Vermont.
Bruce was very social and had great times with a large network of friends in the Manhasset area. He traveled throughout the country with his buddies and had many interesting stories from those travels.
In 1974, he was united in marriage to Chris Callahan. They loved skiing and had wonderful times living in Vermont. They later separated but remained good friends.
Bruce had several setbacks in life including severe injuries from a car accident in the early 70’s and a traumatic brain injury in the 1980’s leaving him with a permanent hemiplegia. In spite of these physical setbacks he continued to avidly pursue his vocation as a massage therapist as long as his physical abilities allowed.
He had a big heart and a very giving nature. He doted on his three nephews and niece in Wisconsin and never forgot a birthday.
Bruce is survived by his two brothers: Robert Laing M.D. (Sandra) of Racine, WI and Gregory Laing of Hicksville.
He was predeceased by his former wife, Chris, and by his parents June (in 1992) and Edward (in 2012).
A funeral mass was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Dec. 17 with subsequent burial in the family plot at Holy Rood, Westbury, N.Y.
The family would like to thank his cousin Marilyn and his good friend Richard for all the efforts they made to make his life more comfortable particularly toward the latter part of his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested for Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Manhasset.
