Farmingdale Mother Accused Of DWI

On Dec. 28, Nassau County Police arrested 28-year-old Sheri Hinds of Farmingdale on allegations she had been driving while intoxicated with her 8-year-old son in the car.

According to police, Hinds was driving a Nissan sedan, headed southbound on the Meadowbrook Parkway in Roosevelt, at approximately 6:45 a.m., when police observed her speeding.

Officers conducted a routine traffic stop, at which time they determined Hinds was intoxicated and placed her under arrest.

Hinds’ 8-year-old son was also in the vehicle at the time of the arrest and was removed from the scene by the father.

Hinds has been charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s Law, driving while intoxicated, endangering the welfare of a child and vehicle and traffic law infractions.

Named after Leandra Rosado—an 11-year-old girl who was killed by an intoxicated driver in 2009—Leandra’s Law makes it a class E felony, punishable by up to four years in prison, if convicted of driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 years old.

Hinds was arraigned at the First District Court in Hempstead on Monday, Dec. 29.
