After 46 years, the Village of Farmingdale Board of Trustees voted unanimously, on Jan. 5, to adopt a new village code book in an effort to consolidate and organize several local ordinances that have been amended over the years.
“There are over 50 local laws that have never been recodified,” Farmingdale Mayor Ralph Ekstrand said. “Moreover, obsolete portions of the code have also been removed.”
The village averages about seven or eight new local laws a year, accounting for more than 300 ordinances that were missing from the code, which had not seen an update since 1968.
The newly adopted code also weeds out any grammatical errors and any portion of the code that was in conflict with changes made to both New York State and local laws.
In addition, village attorney Claudio DeBellis said the newly recodified book addresses contradictions with the paperback version of the code and will be made available online for the first time, making it easier for residents and village officials to look up and reference village statutes.
