Anton Writers’ Guidelines
Articles
• Double-check accuracy of proper names, titles and dates.
• Include a headline and byline on every submission.
• Include at least two sources in every news story.
• Include substantial quotes in profile pieces.
• Avoid first-person perspective (remember, you’re reporting—the story’s not about you).
• Avoid ellipses in body copy (though they’re acceptable when quoting someone and there’s a pause between thoughts).
• Avoid semicolons and write shorter, more concise sentences.
Accompanying Images
• All stories must include hi-res photos (300 dpi minimum, taken with a camera not a cell phone) and accurate captions.
• Double-check spelling of proper names and titles in captions, making sure they’re consistent with the text in the story.
• Name photos and captions so identification is clear. (If submitting multiple photos and captions from a parade, name the first photo “Parade A,” and ID the caption “Parade A.” The second should be called “Parade B,” then “Parade C,” etc.)
