Cub Pack 134, comprised of first through fifth graders from Stewart Manor, Garden City, New Hyde Park, Franklin Square and Bellrose, and The National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations-NECO donated non-perishable food to the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island located at 267-07 76th Ave. in New Hyde Park. The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island provides comfort and shelter to families experiencing the pain of having a sick child in Long Island area hospitals by providing a home away from home to parents and siblings of these children with a temporary haven in a secure and comfortable environment among other families sharing a similar burden. The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island can house up to 42 families at any time, but is in need of assistance in making sure that these families have healthy foods to prepare their meals while visiting their ailing youngster in the hospital.
The Cub Scouts hope that their efforts underscore the need that these families are facing and will prod others to make donations to the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. Among the products the Scouts donated are cereal, oatmeal, rice, healthy snacks, cooking oil, mayonnaise, canned fruit, peanut butter, jelly, tuna fish, pasta and canned soups.
