Charlotte Sear, Great Neck North Democratic Zone Leader, together with her folk singer husband Dave Sear, opened their home for brunch and an in depth discussion with former Congressman Gary Ackerman on the problems of the Middle East and the violence occurring around the world today.

Also in attendance were Town Supervisor Judy Bosworth, Great Neck Village Mayor Ralph Kreitzman, Nassau County Legislator Ellen Burnbaum and Village of Great Neck Acting Justice Jon Mostel.

From 1993-2013, Ackerman represented the Roslyn area in Congress. Ackerman was the former ranking member of the House Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia.

As such he brought a vast trove of knowledge and insights to an open dialogue. Ackerman asked his audience to think outside the box about why there is so much violence and why young Muslims are attracted to radical groups. He asked that the group think about how best to provide for our security without giving up our Constitutional rights and left his audience with more questions than answers.

The afternoon was an outstanding event, with a highly respectful exchange of ideas leaving everyone with things to think about and a reward for being involved.
