While Roslyn High School is off to another fast start in the 2014-2015 season, Bulldog alumni, Mark Gjonlekaj continues to make strides in his second season at SUNY-Old Westbury.

As the second half of the 2014-2015 season begins, Gjonlekaj is seeing solid playing time for the Panthers. Old Westbury got off to a difficult start, but after the winter break, they began putting together a string of victories.

Gjonlekaj, who was a scoring and rebounding machine at Roslyn, was key to those wins. In the Jan. 7 away game win over Sarah Lawrence, Gjonlekaj led the Panthers in scoring, notching 21 points in the decisive 95-54 win. Gjonlekaj’s shooting eye was back, as he hit 10 of 15 shots from the floor.

Three days later, Gjonlekaj continued his high-scoring ways in a 86-78 home game win over Mount Saint Vincent. Gjonlekaj had 18 points, going a splendid 8 from 11 from the field. He also had three block shots and one steal.

In his freshman year at Old Westbury, Gjonlekaj hit stride in the second half of the season. He was named Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week in January and March 2014 and Skyline Conference Weekly Honor Roll player for the last week of February. For his recent performances, Gjonlekaj was named Skyline Conference Player of the Week for the second week
of January.

The six-foot-six sophomore still has Roslyn on is mind as he lists Da Angelo Pizzeria in Albertson as his favorite place to have a slice. Gjonlekaj lists his career objective as being a “Business Manager of top firm in the world,” but admits that his dream job is still being an NBA player.
