Westbury Village Justice Thomas F. Liotti will be seeking a seventh term.

Liotti has been the village judge for 24 years as of this April. He has run six times, five without opposition. Prior to becoming Village Justice, Liotti was the Chair of Westbury’s Code Review Commission. He is a graduate of Adelphi University and holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Bernard M. Baruch Graduate School of Business and Public Administration of the City University of New York and a Juris Doctor degree from Widener University School of Law. Liotti has been an attorney since 1977. He has been AV rated by Martindale Hubbell Lawyers Directory for 30 years. He is an adjunct Professor in the Paralegal Studies program at Nassau Community College.

ElectionLiotti_021215AThis year he will run for re-election just as he did in 2007 and 2011 under the Judicial Independence Party, an entity which he created. He does not accept campaign contributions or endorsements from anyone.

“I have tried and I believe succeeded at making our Village Court into a very special place where everyone is treated with the utmost dignity and respect,” said Liotti.

Each year Liotti holds special Law Day and Constitution Day programs for the entire community. In 2004 he authored the longest decision ever published by a village or town justice in New York at 109 pages plus what he referred to as “Probable Cause Plus Guidelines For The Issuance of Search Warrants.”

“I function as an independent branch of government without fear or favor,” noted Liotti. “My oath says that I am to uphold, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America and that is what we do. We treat everyone fairly, give everyone a chance to be heard and render decisions that are authoritative and well reasoned. Before I was nominated I promised to preserve the residential character of the community. I believe that we have done that.”
