Edwin David Marks, 92, died on Jan. 25, 2015, at his home in Delray Beach, FL, after a brief illness. Born on Oct. 18, 1922 in Flushing, he was a long-time resident of Sea Cliff.
Ed graduated from Great Neck High School in 1940, and entered the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Enrolling in the U.S. Army in 1942, he served as Sergeant and landed in France on D-Day plus two. He was discharged in 1945 and graduated from Wharton in 1946. He joined Sunrise Oil, a heating oil supplier in College Point, Queens, in 1947 and ran it until 2010, having expanded it to Plainview.
A dog lover and lifelong sailor, Ed was a member of yacht clubs at Musketa Cove, Hempstead Harbor (commodore), Shelter Island, Sea Cliff, Knickerbocker (fleet captain), and Sewanhaka Power Squadron (commodore and founding member).
Ed is survived by his devoted wife Brenda, daughters Kim Fiertz (Carey) and Amy Franklin (Don), and granddaughters Jackie Franklin, Maggie Fiertz, Alex Franklin and Nikki Franklin. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org would be greatly appreciated.
