Suffolk County police are searching for an armed assailant who shot a teenager in Copiague early Saturday morning, police said.

The 14-year-old male victim was standing outside a residence on West Prospect Street at 1:10 a.m. when he was shot in the leg by an unknown suspect, police said.

The teen, who was not identified, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was treated and released, police said.

The investigation is continuing, police said. Detectives ask anyone who may have witnessed the shooting to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
