Village of Great Neck Trustee Jeffrey Bass was appointed to the Nassau County Planning Commission last week, following a meeting of the Nassau County Legislature, where Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano’s request to appoint Bass was approved. Bass told the Great Neck Record that he is “honored and privileged” to have received this appointment. “This commission serves an important role for the county, North Hempstead and Great Neck,” he added.
According to the commission, its vision is to “oversee the orderly growth and development of the county, seeking to balance economic growth with environmental protection and historic preservation.” Bass further explained to the Record that the commission “considers all planning, zoning and related matters brought to it by the county’s towns, villages and cities.”
The Nassau County Planning Commission is mandated by law to approve subdivision of land within the unincorporated areas of the county and offer recommendations to municipalities on zoning referrals. The planning department staff processes and reviews subdivision applications and zoning referrals and makes recommendations to the Planning Commission. The department is also charged with advising the county executive, the county legislature and county departments in regard to the physical development of the county.
Bass will now be one of nine members appointed by the county executive. The county charter stipulates that all commission members be residents of Nassau County, and that the commission must include at least one resident from each of the county’s three towns. The charter also requires that certain interests (environmental, business and minority) be represented on the commission. The term of office for planning commissioners is three years. Bass replaces Marty Glennon.
Bass is currently serving in his fourth term as a trustee of the Village of Great Neck. He had previously served the village as a five-year member of the board of zoning appeals and a two-year member of the village’s planning board. Bass is the Founder of Executive Strategies Group, a consultancy providing high-level strategic operations and financial advice to business owners seeking assistance in critical decision making. He was previously the principal in charge of Strategic Business Advisory Services at Margolin Winer and Evens, a Long Island–based regional accounting and business advisory firm. Bass also held senior management positions in the city of New York. He is chairman emeritus of the Long Island Capital Alliance and past president of the Long Island Chapter of the American Jewish Committee. Additionally, Bass is published and taught graduate level courses in public administration and urban planning.
Bass can will continue in his role as Village of Great Neck trustee.
