Middle School Recreation Nights Announced
The Garden City Recreation Department is sponsoring several recreation nights for middle schoolers in St. Paul’s Field House on the following dates:
Friday, March 6 – Sixth grade
Friday, March 13 – Sixth and seventh grades
Recreation nights will be chaperoned by the recreation staff and will run from 7 to 9 p.m.
Admission is $5. A DJ will provide music and refreshments will be available for a nominal charge. The gym will be open for basketball, volleyball, dancing and other games.
Note-Once the children are in our facility for either of these programs, they will not be allowed to leave unless accompanied by an adult. Please come into the building to pick up your child.
Spring Roller Hockey
All participants are required to supply full equipment to engage in the program. This includes: Hockey helmet with a cage (lacrosse and bike helmets are not allowed), hockey gloves, shin and elbow pads, hockey stick, roller blades, protective cup and long pants (no shorts allowed). Emphasis is placed on being a good team player and good sportsmanship.
Kindergarten Clinic (Pee Wees):
When: Sundays from 3 to 4 p.m. Cost: $80
Designed as a beginner program for our youngest hockey participants, this hour-long clinic will introduce the basics of roller skating along with fundamentals of the game of hockey. No previous experience is required.
1st Grade Clinic (Squirts):
When: Sundays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Cost: $80
Designed as a continuation of our beginner program, this hour-long program will be half clinic and half scrimmage games.
2nd & 3rd Grade Division (Mites):
When: Sunday games scheduled at 4:30 & 5:45 p.m. Cost: $80
All participants will be placed on a team and participate in a game of roller hockey each week. Players should have previous experience in skating and a general knowledge of basic fundamentals of the game.
4th & 5th Grade Division (Juniors):
When: Fridays at 4 & 5:30 p.m. Cost $80
All participants will be placed on a team and participate in a game of roller hockey each week. All players should be able to skate and have knowledge of the rules and all the fundamentals of the game. In this division, off-sides is introduced.
6th, 7th, & 8th Grade Division (Seniors):
When: Fridays at 6:45 & 8 p.m. Cost: $80
All participants will be placed on a team and participate in a game of roller hockey each week. In this division, off-sides is played, so it essential all players understand the game.
Adults (30 & over)
When: Sundays at 7:15 p.m. Cost: $70
Pick up games are set up each session where adults (30 & over) can participate in a fun game of roller hockey. All games will be supervised by the hockey staff.

The Garden City Recreation Department will this year be offering discount tickets to area ski resorts. Tickets can be purchased at the recreation office at 108 Rockaway Ave. Cash or check will be accepted for payment. The gate and discounted prices are noted. Spring Is Coming And So Is Us Sports Institute
Spring programs with US Sports Institute will start in early April with the very popular Multisport Camp for 5 to 11 years old during the spring break. They will also offer weekly classes beginning in April for children ages 3 to 7 years in soccer, T-ball and multisports. For the 2-and 3-year-olds, US Sports Institute will held Parent and Me classes on Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday mornings.

Online Registration Now Offered
As a service enhancement for residents, the recreation and parks office now offers an online registration option for its programs. Residents may now use an online registration website to choose programs for their families beginning with the winter tennis program that opens on Dec. 5. To get a look at the new website, please visit www.gcreconline.gardencityny.net. In order for a resident to use the online registration option, the family will first need to visit the recreation and parks office at 108 Rockaway Ave. to verify residency and their family information and to receive their password. A list of instructions will also be included. Once you have your password you are free to register for any program offered. Visa or Mastercard is accepted for this service.
