A Lake Success village police officer shot and wounded a suspect who was allegedly trying to carjack a driver while fleeing a cell phone store robbery on Wednesday night, Nassau County police said.

The suspect, whose identity wasn’t immediately released, robbed the  T-Mobile store on Northern Boulevard in Flower Hill before carjacking a victim on Lakeville Road in Lake Success during his getaway when the officer confronted him at 6:20 p.m., police said.

After shooting the suspect, the officer placed him under arrest, police said. The suspect was taken to a local hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries.

Major Case Bureau detectives are continuing the investigation.
