Village trustees Steve Corte and Beaumont Jefferson were sworn in last night, at the Village of Westbury’s reorganization night.

DSCN0309Corte, who is returning for his third term, thanked residents for their support.

“It’s truly a great honor to be among some great people here,” Corte said. “I think we’ve done a lot of good work in this village over the last six years…and hopefully we just continue to make this a great place to live.”

Jefferson is entering into his second term.

“I thank everyone for their support and I look forward to another four years of service to the community,” Jefferson said. “And I’ll do my best to serve the community.”

The trustees were sworn in by mayor Peter Cavallaro, who said it was an honor to swear in his friends.

“It’s gratifying to serve with people who share the same values and who are friends,” Cavallaro said. “It’s a good team.”

Cavallaro also swore in Village Justice Tom Liotti, who is entering his seventh term.

“He truly does have the best interests of the village at heart,” Cavallaro said of Liotti. “He runs the court as a model village court, and he really stepped up in a no judicial role when he was a key member of the legal committee that helped us stop the casino at Fortunoff.”

Liotti noted that Westbury was well-known as being a community for all seasons, because of its sense of togetherness and diversity.

“Our village is a very special place,” Liotti said. “I am extremely honored to serve as your village justice. We are setting the standard for others to follow.”

At the reorganization meeting, the mayor also re-appointed Joan Boes as deputy mayor.
