It has been my absolute pleasure to serve in the Chiefs Office of the Locust Valley Volunteer Fire Department for the past eight years and especially the past two years as Chief of Department. As of April 13, I will be stepping aside and completing my term as chief.
I truly enjoyed leading this department and working with so many incredibly talented individuals that help to make our volunteer service a premier agency on Long Island.
I want to first thank the officers and members that dedicate their time responding to emergency calls, any time day or night. Their ongoing commitment to countless trainings and community activities is a true testament to their unbelievable dedication. I’d like to acknowledge their family members who willingly allow them to volunteer for our community. They are understanding and their compassion for what our volunteers do deserve a generous round of applause.
I’d like to thank the community for their support of our department. Whether it be a financial contribution, an occasional tray of cookies, or a note of thanks after a call, this department truly appreciates your acknowledgment and generosity.
Throughout my term in office, the department has responded to numerous house fires, including two recent fatal fires, many terrible storms and natural disasters, such as Hurricane Irene and Hurricane Sandy and many automobile accidents and ambulance calls. I am thankful for those members who responded on those calls and dedicated their time standing by for hours and hours at the firehouse when our community needed them most.
I’d also like to thank the neighboring departments and their incredible leadership for their assistance during times of mutual aid and for their friendship over the past eight years. I praise the chiefs who have come before me and congratulate the newly elected chiefs as they prepare to lead this department and serve our community now and in the future.
Lastly, I wish to personally thank my family, my parents, Kevin and Kathy Nolan, my beautiful daughter Olivia and my amazing fiancé Margaret for their unwavering support, love and compassion during my tenure as chief. Thank you for allowing me to serve this great community.
