New Venue For Chamber Induction

Surrounded by bright neon automobile signs, the Historic Oyster Bay-East Norwich Chamber of Commerce held their 2015 induction in one of the newest locations in town, Collector Car Showcase. Owner David Jacobson and manager Michael Breen cut the red ribbon that officially opened their location at 85 Pine Hollow Rd.

Oyster Bay’s own Nassau County Legislator Donald MacKenzie inducted the new slate of officers.

The officers bring their experience to the positions as they serve again. They are: President Dottie Simons, Vice President Walter Imperatore, Secretary Susan Dembo, Treasurer John F. DeLillo, CPA and Past President Michele Browner.

The board of directors has a few changes. The 2015 board includes: Austin Azzaretto, Robert L. Brusca, Esq., Catherine Drabin, Alex Gallego, Wendy Goldstein, Tina Mazzarella, John McEvoy, Colleen McKean, Chuck Panetta, Jim Perna, Dawn Riley, Bob Santos, and Fran Walker. The chamber recently re-organized and has elected to name Shari Cope-Dembowski their executive director.

The Chamber held their first Oyster Bay-East Norwich Expo at the Oyster Bay High School on March 30 from 4 to 8 p.m.

“I’m very excited that we could pull together 42 community groups to show what they offer,” Simons said. “It attracted a lot of young people and we will do it again next year and hope to bring in the older residents to show them all the new things we have in town.”

She said the attendance was lighter than expected, but that is to their benefit.

“It gets us ready for next year’s event,” Simons said. “A real positive result was that the not-for-profits were all together under one roof and because of that they are coming together for some other activities.”

She added, “It’s all about lighting up the community.”

The next Chamber event is the ribbon cutting of a new business in town, Meta Burn Fitness, on Tuesday, April 28 at 6 p.m. The facility, owned by trainer Rahz Slaughter, is at 68 West Main St. The community is invited to attend.

“There will be light refreshments, raffles and Elaina Estrada, Miss New York International 2015, will be there,” Executive Director Shari Cope-Dembowski said.

She was setting up the next Chamber e-blast and said that there are lots of new events going on all month.
