The Westbury School District is proposing a $130,718,342 budget. The budget will be offset by the tax levy (59%); state aid (31%), reserves and appropriated fund balance (8%), and PILOTS and other revenues (2%). This year the district received $40.6 million in state aid, about $2.9 million more than last year. The district is also taking $10 million from the reserves and appropriated fund balance, $2.7 million more than they took last year.

The budget allows for the addition of 25.8 staff positions throughout the district. This includes 19.8 full-time employees and six full-time administrative staff positions. Superintendent Dr. Mary Lagnado is proposing putting seven full-time teachers at the elementary school level and 10.8 at the secondary levels. She also proposes adding two assistant principals to the high school, as well as one at Drexel Avenue School and one at Powell’s Lane School. The new staff positions also include two full-time district positions dedicated to enrollment growth.

The new budget also includes the grade reconfiguration for Drexel, Park and Powells Lane schools. Starting in September, these schools will each house grades 1 to 5, instead of being split by grade levels.

The budget vote is Tuesday, May 19 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. See the complete proposed budget and presentation at www.westburyschools.org
