A Mastic teenager was stabbed to death during a dispute in his hometown on Friday, Suffolk County police said.
Trevor Bender, 17, was sitting in the passenger seat of a car that was stuck in traffic on Mastic Road at around 5:10 p.m. when he and the driver got into a verbal dispute with a group standing on the corner of Mastic Road and Moriches Avenue, police said.
Bender and the 18-year-old driver got out of the car and approached the group, police said. The dispute escalated and Bender was stabbed in the chest, police said. The male suspect fled the scene on foot.
Bender was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
