An 81-year-old Manhasset Hills woman suffered severe injuries in a hit-and-run accident in Williston Park on Wednesday, June 18 at 9 a.m. Carmela Strocchia suffered a broken shoulder and leg and a wrist injury while she was walking to attend her grandson’s concert at the Center Street School, her son Ralph Strocchia said.

Strocchia said a champagne colored, older Japanese car was traveling east bound on Center Street before turning northbound on Foch Boulevard, where it struck Carmela. The driver did exit the vehicle to check Carmela, but fled the scene when a witness approached the accident, Ralph said.

Police are still searching for the driver, who was described as a white male in his mid-to late 30s, according to Ralph. Carmela currently awaits surgery at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola and expects extensive rehab which Ralph said would take “many months.” She was unavailable for comment.

Ralph asked if anyone has information pertaining to the accident to contact the Nassau County Police Department’s third precinct.
