On June 30, 1970, the Mineola American reported the biggest fire in four years swept downtown Mineola, injuring seven firefighters. The blaze roared for three hours. Completely destroyed were the Triumph Cleaners, Executive Restaurant and Raylor Stationery. Elpidio Beauty Parlor was damaged. On Aug. 25, a fire hit the building occupied by Wonderama Luncheonette on Mineola Boulevard.
