Free Outdoor Concert

Good Shepard Lutheran Church, 99 Central Park Rd. in Plainview, presents The Park Brothers, a local neighborhood band unique in style, age and song choice, playing favorites on the church lawn at 7 p.m. There is no charge for this concert, but a free-will donation to help improve the school’s playground is greatly appreciated. Venture out to the Plainview library and enjoy a fun afternoon of rock ‘n’ roll with The Mankind Band at 3 p.m. Formed in 1971 and still going strong, Mankind plays everything from Pat Benatar and Donna Summer to Adele and Lady Gaga and lots more in between.

Movie: Still Alice

The Plainview library presents two showings, 2:30 and 7:30 p.m., of the film Still Alice. Renowned linguistics professor Alice Howland (Julianne Moore) and her family find their lives changing profoundly when she is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Along the way, Alice struggles not only to fight the inner decay, but to make the most of the time that remains. 1 hour 41 min. Rated PG-13.

Poolside Cocktail Party

The Residence Inn Plainview, 9 Gerhard Rd., hosts 7-In-Heaven Singles Events as it hosts a luau-themed Poolside Party. This event, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m., includes a luau menu, special desserts and lots of dancing. More than 100 singles are expected to attend this cocktail party with DJ music, dancing and icebreaker games to mix things up. Seating will be arranged by age group: 32-46, 38-52, 44-59 and 54-69, but anyone at any age is welcomed to join. Event costs $37 in advance or $40 at the door. Cash bar. Kids Club

The Broadway Mall hosts the Long Island Puppet Theater for a fun-filled, interactive event about Little Red Riding Hood. The event is free and open to all ages. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A Night At The Races

St. Ignatius Loyola Parish in Hicksville presents dinner and “A Night at the Races.” At Msgr. Tarrant Hall in the St. Ignatius Loyola School on East Nicholai Street. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., dinner served at 7 p.m., races start at 7:45 p.m. Cost is $15 per person. Dinner will be served buffet style and we ask that you bring your own drinks, glasses, and ice. Heart & Sole 5K Run/Walk

Plainview and Syosset hospitals invite community members to join in a morning of fun and fitness at the 12th annual Heart & Sole 5K Run/Walk at Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School on July 19. The proceeds of this event will benefit the Plainview and Syosset scholarship funds, which will be awarded to students in the hospitals’ local communities considering a career in a medically related field. The fun begins with registration from 7 to 8:15 a.m. The children’s fun run will take place at 8 a.m., with the 5-kilometer jaunt commencing at 8:30 a.m. This event has been growing in popularity each and every year and with close to 600 runners and their families participating last year, the 2015 race is guaranteed to be a very large and exciting turn out. The run is being presented by the Greater Long Island Running Club. Any groups interested in sponsoring the run should contact 516-719-2418.

Opera Duets

The Plainview library presents a program for opera lovers at 2 p.m. Many great duets have been written for the world of opera. Dr. Mel Haber discusses and shows video recordings of some of the most popular, dramatic and beautiful operatic duets, including selections from such operas as Aida, Otello, Der Rosenkavalier and The Pearl Fishers, performed by world renowned opera singers.

Bereavement Support Group

Good Shepard Hospice Bereavement Services are open at no charge to anyone in the community who has experienced a loss through death with its Spousal/Partner Loss Group. Upcoming Bereavement Support Group, led by a bereavement specialist, takes place at Good Shepard Hospice Administrative Office, 110 Bi-County Blvd., Suite 114, in Farmingdale.
