Marc Berger and RIDE will be performing on July 13 at the “On The Gazebo Concerts” at 7:30 p.m. at the Mary Jane Davies Green. Four pieces of Berger’s band will accompany him, performing songs from RIDE, his new album and Folk Music, his upcoming album.
RIDE was inspired by Berger’s love of the American West. It combines country and folk with other staples of American music. For Folk Music, Berger explains it to be “very different” and more rock influenced. He said it gets people to “shake their booty.”
When asked about his inspirations, Berger said, “I play music because it jazzes me; it’s that simple.”
A guitar and harmonica player, Berger has had a love for music since his experience in law school. After presenting music publishers with songs he wrote, Berger was given advances on music and continued to write and perform. His inspiration for songwriting and performing doesn’t just stem from music, but from art in general. He names Walt Whitman and Mozart as two of his biggest influences.
“I was in law school writing songs,” said Berger. “They were awful, but when I graduated, they were pretty good.”
