A 29 year-old New Jersey man drowned at a Southampton beach over the weekend, Southampton Town Police said.

A 911 caller reported at 3:57 p.m. Saturday that a man had dived under the water and not resurfaced for 15 minutes at Elliston Park Beach on Millstone Brook Road, police said.

North Sea, Hampton Bays, Sag Harbor and Mastic fire departments searched the beach area along with a Suffolk County police helicopter before divers found Angel DeSantiago Martinez, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office for examination.

Southampton Town Police detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information to call them at 631-702-2230.
