Heading Over To Herricks

Celano assumes superintendent role

Dr. Fino M. Celano recently assumed his role as the new superintendent of schools for the Herricks School District. Celano joins the district from the Garden City public schools, where he served as assistant superintendent for personnel since 2005.

“I am thrilled to be in Herricks as your new superintendent and am looking forward to getting to know the students, faculty, staff, parents and community members that make this such a great district,” said Celano.

Prior to his time in Garden City, Celano served as the assistant superintendent for human resources in the Roslyn School District for two years and before that, as assistant principal and principal of Grand Avenue Middle School in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District.

He has also taught high school social studies in Poughkeepsie, the Bronx and Merrick. During his first few weeks as superintendent, Celano has spent time meeting with board of education members, administrators, teachers, parents, students and community groups, as well as touring the schools and reviewing district facilities.  In addition, Celano is analyzing a variety of data points, including those related to student achievement, business and finance, and human resources, in order to determine the strengths and needs of the district. The data gathered through Celano’s entry plan will lead to the development of district goals, and will also validate points of pride and areas that are working well in the district.

“I am looking forward to the coming year, which I am certain will be exciting and full of learning and growth for all of us,” said Celano.
