Mineola resident poet/lyricist Frank Kelly will read from his collected works at Farmingdale State College on Thursday, Sept. 17. The reading, the kick-off event in the fall Visiting Writers Program, will be held in the Great Room in Ward Hall at 11 a.m. The public is invited and the event is free.
Kelly, a former English professor at Farmingdale, has appeared in publications such as Breadcrumb Scabs, The Bicycle Review and Danse Macabre. He co-authored book and lyrics for two musicals The Texas Chainsaw Musical and Pageant. The latter played off-Broadway and across the US, and as far away as Japan and Australia.
Kelly also wrote lyrics and sketches for the satirical cabaret revue, Xmas! The Xpose! He authored his first book, Growing Up Me: A Memoir of Poems, in 2012. Farmingdale’s Visiting Writers Program has featured readings by more than 150 American and international authors. The program highlights the importance of literature to education and culture.
