Nassau County police arrested man connected to a Mineola burglary yesterday at 5:15 p.m. According to detectives, 64-year-old woman heard noises in the basement of her 9th Avenue home, finding Jose Almendares, 35, Mineola Boulevard. Police said the victim fled the home and notified police.
Police responded to the residence and located Almendares hiding on the stairs leading from the basement to the main floor. He refused to comply with direct orders by the officers and a brief struggle ensued which caused one officer to suffer a fracture to his hand, authorities said.
Almendares was charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree assault and resisting arrest. He was arraigned yesterday at First District Court in Hempstead.
