Christ Episcopal Church renovates steeple
Christ Episcopal Church recently celebrated a refurbished steeple. The ongoing Lift High the Cross project has enabled the parish to renew the steeple and redirect noisy squirrel families to trees instead of churches.
Christ Church is at 33 Jefferson St. on the corner of Chester Avenue and welcomes families of humans through the front door all year round. Animals of any species are honored at the Blessing of the Animals celebrating St. Francis of Assisi which this year falls on Oct. 4.
The squirrels are Garden City residents, but parishioners hail from a number of communities, including New Hyde Park, Franklin Square, Floral Park and Stewart Manor, where the church was born in the 1920s.
Sunday School for all ages starts this year on Sept. 13 with the barbecue-picnic in the corner parking lot after the 10 a.m. Holy Eucharist. Everyone is always welcome. Lunch Bunch on alternating Thursdays attracts retirees. The church’s new monthly book club is underway and always open to new readers. Prayer Group takes place the first Saturday of the month.
Christ Church is home to Garden Manor Nursery School, for two-, three- and four-year olds.
