Kiwanis Anti Drug Initiative Event

Prescription drugs as well as street drugs have had an impact on every community. Massapequa Kiwanis decided to take an initiative and form a task force who’s goal is to raise awareness in their community and have partnered with the Massapequa School district to ensure it success.  The Massapequa Kiwanis has customized a book of facts on drugs and insights on ways to communicate with your children for their community.  We have brought information to the community on a drug app that can be an insight into any type of drug and has a resource of knowledge into the effects of each drug.  Most importantly,  there is a have a 24/7 live counselor phone number so that when your child/parent is ready for help they can get it on a moments notice.

Massapequa Kiwanis has always been an influence in the community, but has taken on this special project because of the need in the community.  Since june of 2012 we have had 20 deaths due to heroin in our community, we say one is too many and need to help make a change.  This is just the first step in the campaign and throughout the school year more projects such as  a role model program and Social media campaign along with a poster program that will be placed in all 9 Massapequa schools.

The expectation is that this program will be rolled out Long Island wide with the help of other Kiwanis clubs that are currently reviewing the project with their respective school districts.

Join us at Thursday, Sept. 17 at A.J Berner Middle school at 7 p.m. at our kickoff to present the book and program to the parents and bring awareness to the massapequa’s.and then we proceed to Massapeaqua High School to present to the School board at 8:15 p.m.
