Gearing Up For Small Business Saturday

ShopSmallSupport your favorite neighborhood stores on Nov. 28, Small Business Saturday. The day was created as part of a national effort to drive consumers to shop at local, independently owned businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the town board, along with the North Hempstead Business & Tourism Corporation (BTDC), urge residents to support Small Business Saturday.

“Downtowns are the lifeblood of our local economy, and it is our responsibility to help them flourish,” said Bosworth. “We must continue to work to grow our downtowns because when our downtown corridors succeed, so do our towns and villages. I urge everyone to support Small Business Saturday.”

For the second year in a row, the town is a sponsor of Small Business Saturday, a joint partnership between Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP) and the Small Business Saturday Coalition.

“‘Buy Local’ is great to say, but does it really mean anything? The answer is yes—it means everything,” said BTDC Executive Director Kim Kaiman. “Businesses play an important role within North Hempstead and supporting them can make or break a business’ chances of survival. Remember to not only support your local businesses
on Small Business Saturday, but any time you think of making a purchase.”

In 2014, 456 city and town officials joined together to support Small Business Saturday. The Town of North Hempstead looks forward to joining in this effort once again. An estimated $14.3 billion was spent nationwide at small businesses on 2014’s Small Business Saturday.
