The new year is with us and the Roslyn High School boys basketball team, under the expert leadership of Craig Murphy, is moving into high gear, ending 2015 with an impressive 79-43 win over Division High School and starting off 2016 with a bang, scoring an equally-lopsided win over Farmingdale, 63-34.

The Bulldog offense is showing amazing productivity from an array of players. Keandre Augustine, one of the top back court men in Nassau County, is having another fine year, but he is being assisted by an impressive infusion of fresh blood to the always-explosive Roslyn offense.

In the win over Division, no less than eight Bulldog players made it to the scoring column. That included five players who scored in double digits: Jacob Buchbinder (15), Spencer Markbreiter (14), Jonah Tenner (12), Keandre Augustine (11) and Ben Perez (10). The Bulldogs, playing at home, took full advantage of the friendly confines, racing out to a 19-11 first quarter lead, before blowing the game wide open, scoring 21 points in the second quarter to only 5 for Division.

The Jan. 2, also at home, followed the same pattern. By halftime, Roslyn was ahead, 34-15. And once again, the scoring attack was remarkably balanced. Omar Burns led the way with 15 points, followed by Tenner with 14 points and Augustine with 13. Perez, Markbreiter, Jared Cohen, Cyrus DeGuzman, Eric Sommer and Austin Reimer also made it into the scoring column.

Upcoming home games are against Hewlitt High School on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and against Wantagh on Saturday, Jan. 9 at noon. The Roslyn scoring machine is in full motion and basketball fans don’t want to miss out on what looks to be another big year in the making.
