Fight Turns Into Robbery

Nassau County police arrested two Westbury men yesterday, Jan. 25 at 2:20 p.m., after a fight escalated into an assault and then a robbery.

According to detectives, a verbal argument ensued between a 32-year-old male victim and Ovidio Hernandez, 33, while inside the Sabor Latino Restaurant located at 678 Union Ave. Hernandez then struck the victim in the forehead with a beer bottle, causing a large laceration that made him fall to the ground. At that time Miguel A. Amador, 32, hit another 30-year-old male victim that came to the aid of first victim by using a pool stick, causing contusions to the victim’s right hand. Hernandez then displayed a folding knife and removed an undetermined amount of money from the 32-year-old victim’s pocket.

Hernandez and Amador then fled out the rear door of the restaurant. Police responded and after hearing a police broadcast, observed the two defendants in the rear lot and placed them into police custody without incident. The 32-year-old victim was transported by ambulance and treated for his injuries. The other victim refused treatment at the scene.

Amador is charged with first degree robbery, second degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Hernandez is charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, second-degree menacing and two counts of fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon. Both men were arraigned on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at First District court in Hempstead.
