Temple Beth Sholom of Roslyn Heights is truly privileged to have Ofir Gonen, a Sabra (native born Israeli), as a Shin-Shin representative from Israel. Shin-Shin is the name given to a gap year, a year between high school and service in the Israeli Defense Forces, during which the young people do some sort of community service, in Israel or abroad. Students have experienced Israeli cooking (falafel, tahina, hummus and Israeli salad) and Israeli dancing as part of their immersion into Israeli culture.
