First- and second-grade students at McKenna Elementary School showcased their dancing skills for the community during the school’s annual square dance hoedown. Square dancing is a series of group or couple movements and patterns that teach the students rhythm, communication, respect and teamwork. Parents, family, friends and staff were entertained by students as they performed dances that were learned in their physical education classes.
“Students worked hard and practiced for many weeks to perform for members of our community,” said physical education teacher Kieran O’Brien. “Students enjoyed dressing the part for the big day, wearing outfits that truly made it an authentic and fun experience for everyone.”
