A woman was arrested for allegedly driving drunk and causing the crash that killed her 24-year-old passenger in Middle Island over the weekend, Suffolk County police said.
Dawn Pierce, 21, of Bayport, was driving a Ford Edge southbound on Wading River Hollow Road when she lost control of the SUV and struck a tree near the corner of Scenic Hills Drive at 2:37 a.m. Sunday, police said.
Her front-seat passenger, Jacqueline Grawunder, of Yaphank, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her two backseat passengers were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was taken to taken to the same hospital, where she was admitted with serious injuries.
Pierce was charged with driving while intoxicated, and will be arraigned at a later date.
