Nancy Comer is a woman of many talents. Here are a few of her accomplishments:
Nancy Comer has had a longtime involvement with the PWPL, which includes her five years as a trustee, founder of the Books for Dessert program and service to the library users with disabilities and is an advisor on the Health Advisory Council. She has been instrumental in planning facilities improvements to upgrade learning spaces for library patrons as well as active in the planning and marketing for the new Children’s Library. Ms. Comer has achieved grant funding for important library programming. With that, she brings to the library her career experience as an editor, writer, designer, stylist and marketer for national print and online digital publications, specializing in women’s issues, career planning, health, medicine and developmental disabilities. She’s energetic, imaginative and persevering, which is demonstrated in her serving on the boards of national and local nonprofits, including breast cancer, environmental and professional organizations. (To name a few among the nonprofit organizations she’s worked on are national breast cancer organizations, a national Eating Disorder Task Force, the Town of North Hempstead Community Development Agency and Community Mainstreaming Associates (CMA). She also cofounded our local Baxter’s Pond Foundation, which plants and maintains the area surrounding Baxter’s Pond.)
At the end of the day, many of us have wonderful accomplishments when we have a full life, but Nancy Comer is also a kind, funny, bright, warm, engaged, creative individual who I am happy to call a good friend. And that is an accomplishment also; being an empathetic person who listens. That is someone you want on a board. Someone with an open heart and takes in consideration all sides of any issue. —Jane Breskin Zalben
