Southampton Man Fatally Hit by Car

A 37-year-old man was fatally hit by a car while crossing a road in his hometown of Southampton over the weekend.

Southampton Town Police said Claude Eleazer was walking across County Road 39 when he was struck by a westbound Chevrolet Cruz near the corner of Tuckahoe Lane at 10:29 p.m. Friday.

The victim was taken to Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives impounded the vehicle and are continuing the investigation but the driver was not charged.
