The weekend of October 14-16 promises to be an exciting one as The Wheatley School celebration commemorating its 60th anniversary will take place.
Events are scheduled throughout the weekend, including a career panel on Friday, individual class events Friday evening and Sunday morning, and event throughout the afternoon and evening at Wheatley on Saturday. Imagine what it will be like to walk through the same halls you walked in high school, find your old locker, meet up with people from your old soccer team, or those you tried to whip in tennis. Did you appear in the same high school production, perform in a concert on the same stage? Locations will be set aside for all kinds of meet and greets. See some of your teachers, club mentors, and maybe even your guidance counselor.
For those of you who attended the 50th anniversary celebration, you know how thrilling it was to walk around the halls, reliving your high school years, meeting up with your old friends, making new friends, and seeing your teachers and principals. Some of you may have missed the opportunity the last time around, but can make it this time. Some of you were only a few years out of school back in 2006, but now would like to take part. No matter what your reason, whether this will be your first time attending an anniversary celebration, or you have been waiting to be a part of another one, please take a moment to register on the website that has been set up: wheatleyalumni.org.
You will find a link to the 60th anniversary celebration, and can easily register using Paypal, and pre-order the meal you would like for Saturday evening, catered by Ben’s Deli. If you prefer, you can always send a check via snail mail. You can also purchase a commemorative t-shirt or class photo at the same time, or get information about special hotels rates in the area for any siblings or friends from out of the area. Encourage them to attend.
Remember, there may not be another celebration until the 75th, so plan to be a part of this weekend. If you can’t attend for some reason, and you are not getting alumni association e-mails, please take a moment to go to the website and send an e-mail to give us yours. We are working off old lists, so if you need to have your e-mail updated, or give us contact information for old friends that we might be missing, you can either do it through the website or by sending an email to wheatleyalumni@aol.com.
