This year’s Memorial Day Fireworks and Commemoration Ceremony was held on Saturday, May 28, over Hempstead Harbor. There was a large turnout of spectators including about 50 boats in Hempstead Harbor. The beach was also filled with viewers who enjoyed the evening that included live music, and of course, spectacular fireworks presented by the Town of North Hempstead, along with its sponsor NEFCU.
Girl Scouts of Nassau County led the Pledge of Allegiance. Musical entertainment was performed by two bands—Unforgettable Fire, a U2 tribute band; and FiveStone, who played popular songs from the ’80s.
Scenic North Hempstead Beach Park’s boardwalk along the water and picnic areas were filled with visitors who enjoyed the festive start to the summer season. “Our Memorial Day Fireworks Ceremony is always a wonderful way to kick off the summer,” said Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “By recognizing our veterans we have the opportunity to pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice fighting for our freedom.”
