The National Council of Jewish Women-Lakeville Section (NCJW) invites the community to hear Michael Waldman, former chief speech writer for President Bill Clinton and head of the Brennan Center at NYU, discuss his latest book, The Fight to Vote, on June 22 at noon at the Jolly Fisherman & Steak House at 25 Main St. in Roslyn.
Bringing his experiences in the White House during the Clinton years and his leadership of the Brennan Center, Waldman will be signing The Fight to Vote, which traces the history of voting rights from the Constitution to the present, after a question-and-answer period.
NCJW has been in the forefront, advocating for the voting rights of all eligible voters, but has seen an erosion of those rights over the past few years. State after state has enacted laws to limit the times, places and conditions needed to vote. This has disenfranchised thousands of minority voters.
Waldman will discuss what the Brennan Center has been doing to roll back those restrictive laws as well as what we can do to ensure that New York does not follow suit.
A donation check, made to the order of NCJW, for $35 will ensure your reservation. Send checks to Miriam Chatinover, 22 Avalon Rd., Great Neck, NY 11021.
