Crown Castle
Crown Castle, the Verizon contractor tasked with installing updated antennas in residential yards, has called village counsel and asked for a meeting. To date they have ignored our requests to provide proof that they have valid easements and can install equipment in residential back yards. Several weeks ago they tried to install enhanced equipment in several residential yards with no proper documentation. The police were called and the installers were told to leave. Both counsel and village officials will meet with their representatives and perhaps a reasonable compromise can be worked out.
Drive With Care
All motorists are reminded that with schools closed, there are many more children around the neighborhood. Please pay particular attention when driving in the area of pedestrian crosswalks. Some children may be preoccupied and will inevitably dart out from in between parked cars or fail to look for oncoming traffic when crossing the street. Please drive slowly especially when you see youngsters. Parents are urged to discuss safe practices with their children and to remind them that it is very difficult for passing motorists to see them and affect a safe stop.
Rubbish Collection
I have gotten a few complaints lately with regard to rubbish that is being left at the curb longer than the 12 hours that is permitted by village law. I ask that you please be mindful of your neighbors and not to bring rubbish to the curb before 7:30 p.m. the night before your scheduled rubbish pick up.
Thank you for your cooperation and by adhering to this guideline, I know that your neighbors will appreciate it as well.

Once again, compliments are due to the recreation department for arranging the 2016 season’s outstanding concert series at the village gazebo, located on the village green at the corner of Stewart and Hilton Avenues.
This week’s program is scheduled for Thursday, July 21, and will feature Vintage Bliss, singing the hits from Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin through Motown.
The program will begin at 7:15 p.m. and admission is free. Please bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy a very pleasant evening. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held at the Cultural and Performing Arts Center at Cluett Hall at St. Paul’s School. Please call the recreation office at 516-465-4075 if you have any questions pertaining to the concert.
Shop And Dine Outdoors
The residents of Garden City are very fortunate to have viable retail businesses on Seventh Street, Franklin Avenue and New Hyde Park Road where there is a good variety of quality merchandise and family dining experiences available to be enjoyed. Please support these businesses and enjoy the products, variety and outstanding customer service. Keep in mind that these merchants save you from traveling outside the village for your needs.
Board Of Trustees Summer Meeting Schedule
During July and August, the board of trustees will meet once a month. The dates are Thursday, July 21, and Thursday, Aug. 18, at 8 p.m. These meetings are held in the boardroom at village hall. I encourage all residents to attend board of trustees meetings, so as to be thoroughly informed of village issues from a firsthand perspective.
