To commemorate 100 years since the passage of the 19th Amendment, which secured women’s right to vote, the U.S. Treasury announced plans to put a woman on the $10 bill in 2020. For the writing competition, the students were asked to select an American woman who made outstanding contributions to our country and explain why she would be a good choice for the $10 bill. Some of the influential women that the students chose to write about included Alice Paul, Mary Edwards Walker and Eleanor Roosevelt.
