Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso invites the community to open their hearts to Long Island’s veterans by participating in the annual Valentines for Vets Program.
“I am eager for the community’s help in continuing this significant cause, which has been a long-standing tradition in the 16th District under my predecessors Michelle Schimel and Tom DiNapoli,” said D’Urso.
For more than a decade, public and parochial schools, as well as businesses, libraries and private citizens have donated personal-care items, outerwear and electronics for the Valentines for Vets Program. Each year, two truckloads of handmade valentines and donated items are delivered to the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook and the Northport VA Medical Center.
Suggested donations include handmade valentines, as well as new toothbrushes, toothpaste, denture adhesive, shampoo, deodorant, hair brushes, non-slip socks, winter hats, gloves, scarves, stamps, patriotic caps or T-shirts, compact discs, scratch-off lottery tickets, iTunes gift cards, wheelchair cup holders, note cards, phone cards, hand-held computer games, electric razors, clock radio/cassette players, terrycloth robes, winter coats, universal remotes, DVDs, portable CD players, earphones, electric toothbrushes, sweatpants and sweatshirts.
Items should be dropped off at the district office at 45 North Station Plaza, Suite 203, Great Neck, by Tuesday, Jan. 31, or at the Great Neck Social Center at 80 Grace Ave.
